How to get to us & The Guest Book

lackwell Miners Welfare Football Club play their games at Primrose Hill, Blackwell. The village is situated in Derbyshire close to the Nottinghamshire border. Travelling to the ground could not be simpler. Travel on the M1 motorway until you reach junction 28. At this junction take the A38 towards Mansfield. After approx. 1/2 mile leave the A38 and turn left onto the B6046 (At the MacArthurglen Retail Park exit).

Continue along this road for 1 mile into a village called Hilcote and then turn left at the Hilcote Arms Public House. Travel along this road for 1 1/2 miles and you will enter Blackwell. The Miners Welfare is on the left and visitors should park their cars here. The ground is then only 50 yards away behind a large surrounding brick wall. Please park in the Welfare car park, barrier will rise on approach. Exit is by keying in no. 2146

Other nearby attractions for the Visitor

If you require overnight accommodation, the Renaisance Hotel is right on the Junction 28 of M1 motorway or there is a Brewers Fayre right next door. Once off the M1 take the A38 to Mansfield and it is the first left turn (50 yards from Junction) Carry along the A38 for 1 mile and the next left turn brings you to The McArthurglen Retail Park (Soon to be renamed the Mansfield Retail Park) . This development offers over 50 retail outlets including famous name-brands.

The American Adventure Theme park is not far away and Chesterfield, Derby, Mansfield and Nottingham are all within easy reach from the M1 and each have excellent night life. For a more relaxed atmosphere, the Derbyshire peak district in our opinion offers some of the finest countryside in England. Sherwood Forest is within easy reach offering the Centreparcs complex.

AT THE GROUND

Admission onto the ground is £2.50 and our award winning programmes are priced at £0.50

On the ground we have a tea bar were you can obtain drinks and snacks. Just adjacent to the entrance gate is The Cottage Inn were meals are served from 6 p.m. onwards.

The ground has a covered seating area suitable for up to 60 people to be seated. At the side of this we have another covered area for up to 150 standing. A fierce gale on 29th of January 1999 removed the roof from this construction only a week after it had been completed. We have restored this for the start of season 2003--2004 with the generous help of Steve Harris and Philip Handley and since then it has been called the Handley Harris stand..

In the main changing block we have a gym area 25 yards x 8 yards, this is utilised for training and for supporters to relax with a hot drink and pick up the half time results from around the country.

The club rebuilt a toilet block behind the main changing block during the summer of 2000 which has alleviated the queuing for toilets during the breaks in the games.

Floodlights were commissioned on the 24th October 2001. The system has 6 columns each with 2 x 2KW lamps giving an average Lux illumination of 149 (League requires 120)

Radio PRIMROSE blasts out music before and after the game and gives supporters details of the two teams prior to the start of games.

After the games we retire to the Miners Welfare were mine host is Mel and Linda and we usually put on hot dogs & chip cobs for the visiting teams and supporters.
